How common are "adventurers" in your world?

I like what [MENTION=92511]steeldragons[/MENTION] is doing there. It's a good way to give the world life beyond the PCs, still focus on them, and is similar to our real world artisans/athletes. I'll probably adopt that. I do have a tiny frontier town with a high amount of adventurers/privateers/mercenaries/etc flock for story reasons. I need to adapt your technique to the rest of the worldspace.
