They had played some there, and showed the game to me, probably because I liked mythology and Lord of the Rings. Not quite sure why I didn't get the PHB, as it would have made more sense, but I still poured over that book, memorizing it. It didn't matter that I couldn't really 'play' with it, since I was an only child. I received the red boxed set for Xmas, which helped a lot.Funny thing, I now see my cousins who have all aged and had their own children. They all look at me occasionally and ask if I still play.
