After I moved in with my boyfriend, I was unemployed for a while (this was in about 1994). He used to go play RuneQuest on Sunday afternoons. One Sunday I was really bored and asked if I could come watch the game. He called the GM to ask if it was okay, and the GM said, "Come early and we'll roll you up a character." I did, and I've been roleplaying ever since. After about 6 months of that campaign, a friend of the GM's was looking for people to play Warhammer FRPG. He invited all of his RuneQuest group to go over to another guy's apartment to play, so we said "sure" and went along. That's where we met 90% of the people we currently game with. When that campaign wrapped up 18 months or so later, the host of that game had started a couple of campaigns of his own that we joined. Then two of the other players started GMing their own campaigns, and pretty soon we had a rotating schedule of about 6 different campaigns, with games occurring every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Eventually we added a couple of other people to the group as they became friends with everyone else (primarily through all of the guys playing Magic: The Gathering together on non-game nights). One of the player/GMs from that Warhammer campaign got married last August. One of the other players was his best man. The best man is also my immediate co-worker and one of my best friends. Tonight my fiance' (the boyfriend who got me into gaming) is going over to my co-worker's house to play video games. We're a very tight group. When my fiance' and I get married my co-worker will probably get to be a best man again. :) We all see each other nearly every week. I've gone on vacations with some of my gaming friends. They kept the campaigns running for me when I went through cancer treatment in 2003. Sadly, the GM of that original RuneQuest group has sort of dropped out. I haven't seen him in 2 years. :(
