How do they survive?

This is probably a dumb question, but here goes...

So, a cat does 1d2-4 or 1d3-4 damage with claw or bite attacks.

So, given that cats are obligate carnivores and need to eat freshly killed prey, how do they ever kill anything?

No matter how huge a creature's penalty to damage is, they always inflict a minimum of one point of damage if they hit. Thus begging the question: "Why haven't the world's cats turned on humanity and killed off all the 1st level peasants?"

I'm pretty sure that attacks that do less than one HP of damage actually inflict nonlethal damage instead...

Real life cats don't deal 1d2-4 damage. I swear. The system is just scaled on what attacks would probably lethally hurt men. If you want a PC cat, maybe you should change the rule to 1d0.2 +0.1 or something ;D.

Several years ago, I had a 7th grade student get hospitalized for a day after being attacked by a domestic cat. The boy looked someone stuck his head in a blender.

Icky.

I have known folks who had to have stitches after being attacked by a cat. Sure your house cat is all cute, but they can do some real damage if they try to. Being swiped that brings a little blood is your cat warning you, they can do a good amount if they want to.

Ah. Must've had levels in Spawn of Satan. Ups the damage considerably, apart from anything else.

Evil little buggers.
