I'm interested. I like the idea of them but they're so stupid and wierd. How have you intrduced Slaadi into your campaign?

My group has aquired a few pieces of the Rod of seven parts. The rod is the ultimate law weapon, Slaadi are pure chaos so they want to destroy the Rod.

Cool. Are you using the old box set?

Sort of :D

I ran that as a campaign a few years ago, but this time I have all new players. So, they have found info on the last person to assemble the Rod to help them figure out it's powers and how to use it. The Queen of Chaos was defeated in the first campaign, so this is a follow up and I'm having the Slaadi as the opposing forcer this time. So, the Box set was used in the history and I'm still referring to it from time to time.

I like to think of the various "Planar" races as being essentially bereft of true free will. They may act in ways that appear to reflect "will", but they are severely constrained by the "purity" of their existence.

When it comes to Slaad, they're more of a force of nature. "Excess" law (metaphysical sense) tends to "attract" them "naturally". Likewise, anybody who intentionally deals with them has to be very careful about building up too much "chaos charge" locally, because it can "arc" to Nirvana with unfortunate results.

I always wondered how to make slaadi seem chaotic. The way the always seem portrayed, appearing often suddenly and wreaking random bloody havoc, always seemed straight chaotic evil to me. So how does one make them something other than frog-headed demons, give them some twist of their own?
