How do you like mixing different settings?

I like the idea a lot actually. And it's something I've done/toyed with when thinking about it.

For example:

-Carbon 2187+Sandy Peterson's Return to Planet Apocalypse=Doom 5E(ish).

-Esper Genesis+Arcana of the Ancients+Beasts of Flesh and Steel: Basically, I like using the Cyphers and the bestiary (Flesh and Steel) to add on significantly to Esper Genesis games.

Nightfell 5E+Hellboy: The Roleplaying game: This is a more recent idea since Nightfall games are now in a partnership with Mantic Games, of the Hellboy 5E rpg, and plans on helping them expand it. Plus, I like the mental image of a Krampus PC working alongside a B.P.R.D. agent or even Hellboy himself. And at the moment, Hellboy: The Roleplaying games has a *VERY*bare selection of monster to use. Nightfell's Bestiary seems like it would be a perfect fit for now till Nightfall Games expands that. (you may have to file the serial number off here and there though).

Mythic Odysseys of Theros+Odyssey of the Dragonlords: All your Greek 5E needs. (Although, if you like the other 5E 3PP greek settings, you can probably add them in too or swap where you need.

Adventures in Rokugan 5E+Mists of Akuma+Undying Corruption-a Korean 5E Adventure: All your mythic Asian adventures needs there.


Spelljammer: Adventures in Space+Sea of Vodari+The Nightmare Kingdom/Scoundrel's Guide to the Scharde Islands: Everybody hated the barebones ship rules in Spelljammer 5E. Both Sea of Vodari+the other two suggested choices will solve those problems for ya, while handling your pirate needs.

Editor's Note: The Nightmare Kingdom is the latest upcoming book for Iron Kingdom Requiems along with its other two companion books. It also has rules for playing as an Undead character. Which itself is interesting with some of the ideas.

Humblewood+Animal Adventures: :You want Animal PCs in your 5E games? Well, there ya go. Birds, Cats, Dogs, Deer, Racoon, Mouse and others. And the upcoming Faraway Seas book, which is part of the Animal Adventures line, will add goats, foxes, pigs, and even more options.

Dragonlance Shadow of the Dragon Queen+Adventures in Middle-Earth 5E+Iron Kingdom Requiem: Okay, look, I'll admit that I just like using the AiME classes and subclasses in Dragonlance 5E campaigns. The Steamjacks and Mechanikal are supposed to be/represent Tinker Gnome tech.

Victoriana 5E+Animal Adventures+SP's Return to Planet Apocalypse: Who knows, maybe that will give me Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night 5E.

Everyday Heroes+King Kong Cinematic Adventure+Pacific Rim Cinematic Adventure: King Kong/Godzilla vs Jaegers. Need I say more?

Well considering that I’ve dropped Mordents haunted moors into my homebrew, use Awnshegh Lords (The Gorgon, the Spider) and Beastmen and pull adventures from everywhere yep I’m all for it
 

I've done this for years, longer than this thread has been going. :)

My homebrew is a mashup of multiple settings, mostly Ptolus and Golarion, but also Eberron and others. I use multiple cultures and pantheons. Cosmologically all clerics are godless and the truth of the existence of gods is actually a campaign mystery so multiple pantheons is no big deal replicating a classic Mediterranean type world where you have the greeks and Egyptians and the Romans and their myths blend or not. The FR pantheon is a commonly worshipped pantheon in parts of the setting. I have used stuff from the 2e god books including religious organizations and had players be part of them. I have put Ravenloft Van Richten's guides as old texts in the Golarion gothic horror immortal principality of Ustalav which in my setting is a province of the Holy Lothian Empire currently involved in an imperial succession war similar to the past of Karnath in Eberron. The players got to read the texts when I was running the Ustalav based gothic horror Carrion Crown Adventure path and they integrated well.
 

I want to go full Borg crazy and mix together Mork Borg+Cy-Borg+Demon Dogs+Forbidden Psalms(along with all its supplements such as The Last War),

Full on Borg Madness. (And all compatible with Mork Borg to begin with as well soooooooooo).

What is your opinion on using spare material from different settings. Do you think it's horrible? Would you hate to find elements of your favored setting used outside of the setting itself? A lot of things are adaptable and I'm willing to do that; for example a Ravenloft adventure doesn't have to take place on the Ravenloft plane itself, it could just be in a specific region on our homebrew world, and changing names is very easy, but at the same time there are those few things which I cannot easily change if I want to use the F&P book and maps.

Just doing a little survey here, so that I can know what to expect from my players... :)
I generally disdain crossovers across multiple genres. I'm ok with ones crossing subgenres (such as CP/Transhumanism, or D&DFantasy/S&S fantasy)...

I especially dislike crossovers that are more than one session long and not readily handled in the game's core mechanics.

For me the biggest "I'm outta here" red flags are...
  • Crossover uses rules that are problematic. (Typical example: firearms in D&D - they're just too weak!)
  • Crossover is to a setting that there are besooke rulesets for.
  • Crossover was not part of the pitch and lasts more than a session or 2.
  • Involves adding or removing magic/powers/psionics and there are PCs who will be affected by it.
For example, Nagilum seems to be a perfect one-shot crossover in Trek, borrowed from CoC... his one episode appearance is one of my least favorite episodes, and any such crossovers inevitably wind up with, "Since you won't let us go, I'll blow the ship up and kill us all to prevent you from killing us off slowly and painfully." Pulling that kind of badguy in a Trek RPG, however, voids the warranty on the rules and setting...
