Can't they be Arcane, Whimsical, and Threatening?
I voted for Arcane, but I also like the idea of making them frivolous and whimsical as well as Fey and threatening. For me, Elves are like the weather, mercurial, unpredictable, and powerful. They are ruled by their passions, not reason, and their affinity for magic only makes them more capable of working their will on the world. Generally, I think that Elves should have sorceror as their favored class rather than wizard, as their chaotic nature and reputation for beauty lends itself more to a higher charisma than intelligence, and because most creatures with a natural affinity with magic cast as sorcerors do. Let Humans, Dwarves, and Gnomes spend years in detailed study of ancient tomes...Elves browbeat and cajole the universe into bending to their whims, and woe to anyone who raises their ire.
