How does "bless" work ?

I'm ashamed. I just realized that I'm not sure about how this basic 1st level cleric spell do work.

Range: 50 ft.
Area: The caster and all allies within a 50-ft. burst, centered on the caster
Duration: 1 min./level

Ok.
So, does that means that any ally within 50ft of you benefit from the spell in the next x min, even if they then move away from you ?
Or that any ally that stay within 50ft of you for the next x min benefit from the spell, even if you move ?
Or that any ally who stay in the area within 50 ft of where you were when you casted the spell will benefit from the spell for the next x min ?

I think we have been using the first interpretation, but the more I think about it, the more I think the right one is the second.

Needless to say, I failed my google check on this subject...

Page 175 of the PHB. There are three kinds of areas: burst, emanation, spread. A burst catches all in the area, including those you cannot see, with the exception of those with total cover from you (such as allies around a corner down a hallway). An emanation is the same except it continues to radiate for the duration of the spell. And we can stop there, because once we know that a burst is a one-time deal and an emanation is ongoing, we know all that we need to know. Let's answer your 3 questions now.

1. Yes.
2. No. That would be an emanation.
3. No. If they were in the initial burst, they can move around.

THANKS for this thread. have been running this wrong for years. ran it always as emanation (stay close to that cleric!) this is WAY better.
