How does Magnificent Mansion end?

TYPO5478

First Post
What happens to creatures or items inside Mordenkainen's Magnificent Mansion at the end of the spell's duration? Do they get popped out like rope trick? Rope trick says, "Anything inside the extradimensional space drops out when the spell ends." But MMM doesn't say anything like that.

For that matter, does one create the same extradimensional space with every casting? Could things like books, scrolls, or staves be kept inside indefinitely? Could creatures stay there as long as they want (provided all their needs are met)?

Anything inside the MM at the end of the duration is 'popped out' just like the description for Rope Trick. However, you could rule the extradimensional space as a static 'space', thus, you could store items in the 'space'. Your spellcaster would have to cast MM in the exact same location time after time to have access to the items stored in that 'space'. This could also mean that other peoples could cast MM in that exact spot, and have access to your stuff.

hhhrrrrmmm....I'm beginning to envision a mini-adventure... :]

Unspecified -> DM Whim.

Maybe each extradimensional space is unique to the caster, and it makes a very effective prison for anyone who can't plane shift out, as well as a traveling storeage area.

Maybe the space dissolves when the duration ends, dumping everyone and everything inside on the Astral.

Maybe the end of the spell duration is when the particular lord of the abyss that owns that particular mansion comes home.

Maybe the space collapses when the duration ends, destroying everything inside quite effectively.

Maybe it follows the Rope Trick rules.

Maybe it does something else.

Ask your DM.
