pleeeeeease don't go into a class balance war in your responses. also, this is about 3.0 and 3.5 and AD&D. so, to paraphrase bill o'reilly, "This is a 4E-Discussion-Free Zone" please only post responses here if you have houseruled wizards in 3.0 or 3.5 to get them back to where they were in the AD&D era in terms of their power relative to other classes and monsters, and let me know what you did. As i looked at the classes i saw that characters have a ton more hp than they used to have in AD&D. there is no level cap on rolling hp, higher stats, and more magical stat bonuses. monsters now have classes which often gives them more hp than they used to have. i see melee classes (primarily) doing more damage in combat due to more attacks per round and the better gear used in 3.x. at the same time i see wizards wussified in terms of spells that deal damage. there are level caps on fireball, magic missile, lightning bolt, burning hands, etc. i plan on lifting level caps on fireball, lightning bolt, magic missile, and cone of cold. i plan on making burning hands 1 hp per level, no save, in the fan shaped 120 degree arc, as in AD&D. we play 3.0 rules, so there are a lot of save or die spells. i like that. we are keeping those rules in place. has anyone done anything else along these lines? I don't mean to sound rude or anything, but i am only looking for responses from people who agree with me and have done something about it along the lines of what i described above. i am not looking for a discussion in this thread on whether i am right or wrong. you can fork to another thread for that if you like. we are playing tomorrow and i just want to get the proposed rule changes written up before then. also, if anyone has any AD&D wizard spells that they converted to 3.x because they weren't included in any 3.x core books, please feel free to post them here. thx
