How Long & Wide is Waterdeep?

How many miles long and wide is Waterdeep?

I've looked at the TSR Trail Map (no scale), the FRCS and the grey boxed set (no measurements), and I've Googled all sorts of things -- but I can't pin this one down.

If you know the answer, please pass it on (and tell me where you found it!). Thanks in advance.

Depends on where you're measuring from. Water deep, mountain high.

10,000 feet from north to south (so about 2 miles, a smidge under?), and about 4300 feet east to west (so not quite a mile).

That seems kinda small.

FRCS says Waterdeep is over a million people -- but then in parentheses says City of Waterdeep, 130,000 or so. Text says Waterdeep controls lands for "30 or 40 miles around." So that million pop must be from the surrounding areas.

Even so, let's say the city is 2 miles by 1 mile -- that's 60,000 people per square mile. Thassa lot of people!

That is kinda small. The village I grew up in is that big (at least it was 1/2 mile to a friend's house on bicycle, and that wasn't nearly from one end of the village to the other).

While most of this are much higher then 60,000 per square mile, these are modern cities and sky scrapers help keep the populations high.
