I'm not going to force my players to not play what they want.

If they want to be a chick, sure. Go ahead. They may encounter some prejudice from one race or another, or some area, but that's life. Though, it's only come up once.

Why yes, yes I do make the players. I build them from 'spare parts' I mysteriously find around my home. It usually occurs after one of my 'bad times' when things get so dark and cold.

I feel a chill,.......

do you mean who makes the stats for the player's characters? DM or players?

or are you askin "who makes the PCs? the character stats? or the people that play them (players)?" as in what is the thing that makes the characters what they are- their stats or the people who control them?

cause i have no idea what you are askin from the poll....

Do you mean make their characters? (I don't make guys for my players, I assume if they want to pick up men they can do it by themselves out of game time).

've never come across a DM that made players characters (except in tournament matches where there isn't the time to use anything but pregenerated characters).

I've seen it occasionally in Rolemaster and Hero System when the players are completely new to the system but the DM always asks the players what sort of character they would like to play.

I've also put restrictions on the sorts of characters people can play in games, (IE: No werewolves in a vampire game, just because its WoD doesn't mean you can play what you like).

Not to offend, but I think some combination of the word(s) "DM" or "characters" or "PCs" or, or something needs to be put into the original question because I is confused and confusticated.

i ment who made the sheets my bad grammer screws up my writing hehe
your clarification doesnt clear much up....not to be mean or anything-it justs asks who makes the beds (or clean the sheets- or actually produces them)

i know that everyone reading this post knows what you are asking- but just want to be mean.

to sum up:

Does the DM or the players creates the characters?

DM= dungeon master- or GOD
players= the person who RP a character
character= the fictional vessel in which to RP

my answer wouldbe the individual players. every player has an idea of what they want to play- and to force them into a character that they dont like is just askin for trouble.

I had a Dm that did that to me once. We had a group that lacked a cleric. But he loves clerics so he raped us by killing the PCs and then ask "you can be resurrected and take a lvl down, or play a cleric and stay at your current lvl."
He killed me twice- so I decided to give up my Barb and played a cleric. He was happy for a while- but I wasnt playing the cleirc the way he expected and so eventually railed me into playing an NPC in which he controled most the actions of- or told me what to do. I just quit

basically if the players make the char- then they have an idea of how he is and how he behaves. If the Dm makes it- the player cannot play to what the Dm expects- and so there is always room for conflict...
