Ok, here is my question: Does Figher 1 / Rogue 4 who has chosen the Arcane Trickster Roguish Archetype have 2 or 3 1st level spell slots? Either answer, please elaborate :) Should it matter, the char statered as a Fighter and mc'ed into Rogue. My reasoning so far:
Under the multiclassing rules, Fighter or Rogue levels count as 1/3 rounded down levels on the mc-spell slot progression table. It is not 100% clear if only the levels in a class for which you have chosen the magic archetype count towards that of if both count once you have one of these. For the initial question, this is irrelevant at lv. 5 (i.e. in this calse: is it 4/3 = 1 or 5/1 = 1). That would lead to the weird situation though that a mc FTR1/ROG4 would get only 2 1st level slots (as per 1st on the mc spell level table), whereas a straight up ROG4 would get 3 (as per the Arcane Trickster table). So, do you think it is intended that a 5th level mc char gets less than a 4th level straight up FTR / ROG or is it an oversight? I personally expect that the mc table is more intended for full caster mixed with non or partial caster classes and falls over for the Fighter & Rogue. As I am the GM in this game, I think I will rule the following: As long as you have the arcane archetype in only 1 class, you have that progression and only for class levels in that class. If a char has both the eldrich knight and the arcane trickster archetype, they will progress as a straight FTR or ROG on the archetype tables (which have the same progression).
