How much is too much??

absurdum

First Post
I just bought another set of dice today. While it is only my 4th set of dice( I also have a ton of d6's), I was wondering when should I, if ever, stop buying more dice? How many sets do all the people out there own?

ouh...

Hmm. About 25 d20. Most of them got stolen by players though (singing: I like to crit)

More of the other dice. It's a filled 8"*8"*8" box.

"Hello, my name is andrew, and... I.... have... far too many dice.." ::sniff::

I have far too many dice, though I have been collecting them for over 20 years..

I still have my origonal dice from the red boxed D&D, and the crayon to fill em in with..
I have a d30 and a d100 (with 100 sides) still looking out for the d1000 though...

THERE IS NO REASON WHAT SO EVER TO BUY MORE DICE UNLESS YOU LOSE ONE OR IT BECOMES WORN OUT.

That being said, I usually will buy a new set of dice for each campaign I start. Which equates to about 1 new set every two years.

AND I will buy a set for any character that makes it above 4th level in a color scheme that suits his personality, theme or general alignment outlook. This equates to about a new set every two years.

To me a set is 2 of everything except D6, which of course everyone knows you need at least 9 of.

I'm pathetic.

Im sad i say it, but i dont have nearly enough dice. I have about one set of doubles. Up until Sunday I didnt have a single D8 till my friend gave me two because when i DM i've been using D10's instead. The dice I do have are all ugly. Except for my bag of d10's for L5R.

Sadly, I need a new set. I left "Lucky Pete" the d20 at home when I went to my Sunday game and on Monday night he refused to roll well when I had a chance to kill 3/4ths the party. Now he's being punished by sitting next to the microwaved d20s of shame. If his attitude doesn't change by next weekend, he gets the same treatment.

"It rolls well or it gets the nuke."

BluWolf has it right. From a practical standpoint, 2 of each (4,6,8,10,20) is fine, and you need no more for practical purposes. However, you can get totally geeky about it and buy up every type of unique die that you see. I personally have enough dice to equip a gaming group of fifteen with 3 dice of each type, plus a few extra d6's and d30's. GOD HELP ME, I CAN'T STOP!!! :D

Ask Xander or Zhure (can't remember which one) about how many dice is too many. One of them has a dice collection numering over a thousand strong, and has written a web site about the subject!
