How much would this cost

Alright, suppose that I want to have an item (for whatever reason) that does nothing but dispel light spells and has no other effect whatsoever.

What should I base it off of, and how much do you think this should cost (approximately)?

I'd either make an item that casts greater darkness, and then limit it so it only works if a light spell is in effect (and I really don't know how much I'd knock off the price for that)

OR maybe better- create a 1st level spell "Dispell Light" that negates all light spells. (and then use that spell to make the item...)

1st-level seems low. Damning Darkness/celestial brilliance are two spells where it would seem so and there might be some even higher level spells that do more than just shed light or 'shadowy illumination'. If you restrict it to just negating the light/darkness and not other effects of the spell, then that sounds reasonable.

Yea, there needs to be some definition surrounding exactly what this spell dispels. If it's the 0-level light spell, I'd be inclined to create a 0-level dark/i] spell which, while it wouldn't create impenetrable darkness, the AoE might grant bonuses to hide checks, and reductions in Spot and Search, and a few other things. And have it counter, and negate light. Not a bad spell, for a cantrip. I can see giving that to spellcasting Shadows.


Then, create an unlimited use item with that spell. 1,000gp seems reasonable for such an item.

1-2K for Light/Dark spells of 3rd level or less. 3-5K for up to 5th. Maybe 10K for up to 9th.

Just create a "Darkness" spell of lvl 3 or 4... instead of making everything dark.. it just counters light (hence everything becomes Dark)

lvl 3 if it "hampers" the light within the area (No dispelling it, and it would wokr once it gets outside) lvl 4 if it dispells any lightspell that gets into contact...
