Message: <blockquote data-quote="Dr. Talos" data-source="post: 1497994" data-attributes="member: 12577">I used to have the misguided belief that if I started a book than I was obligated to finish the book.  I have come to realize that I do not have as much time as I used to have and I have a lot of books to read.  Oddly though I find that the more books I read the more it seems that a lot of people are saying the same things over and over.  Kind of depressing really because i really enjoy reading.  I give an author two chances before giving up on them if I find myself uninterested in a book.  I will either try that book again at a later date or pick up one of their other books to see if it is any better.  Melanie Rawn and Eddings were two that fell into this category for me.  Unfortunately I tried to read Eddings after I had already read a great deal of fantasy litereature.  Mievill has one more chance to capture my attention.  There have been plenty that have redeemed themselves on the second attempt at reading them.  One was Gene Wolfe's Book of the New Sun.  He has since become my favorite author.I have also given up on authors when they run out of things to say.  I gave up on Jordan and Terry Brooks and Feist for that reason.  I gave up on Goodkind when he started to sound like Jordan.</blockquote>
