Before I ask my question.. let me give you some background. OK - I have been playing a character for a few months now and ... well he is beyond rubbish. I wanted to play him (an Elven Avenger) as a really pious and involved character but I found it really hard to create motivation for him I do think the roleplay element of Avenger is broken.. not only are you a hunt-your-church's-enemy type, that seems like a bad mix of Paladin+Assassin but the entire model of the character suggests he/she is out to get his churches enemies - so what is he doing adventuring with a party? I am sure there were ways I could have roleplayed him better but my lack of motivation led me to treat him as a mercenary type (hiring himself out to the group for gold, rather than being an equal member) but he ended up being a guy who would do anything for money... and in the last encounter but one he licked a poisonous wall for 4gp and tried to bluff the party so he could nab some treasure for himself. I started to hate him before that (playing him fairly and as best I could but PRAYING inside for a big slab of rock to squish him like a bug) but it was really the straw that broke the camels back. So... we are in an area populated by competing tribes of Goblin, Orc & Kobolds. I have already rolled my new character and have an introduction story for him but don't have an effective exit story for my current guy. Does he just wander off? If so wouldn't the group go looking for him? Does he get in a fight and die? If so wouldn't the group seek to raise him? Does he join the other side and betray his group to the enemy? Does he pick a fight with the group and storm off? Those are all the ideas I have come up with and none seem right If you can help by suggesting alternatives or a better version of the ones above, please let me know - all input appreciated
