The disarm scenario I brought up in another post got me thinking, I've seen this talked about, but never gotten into the meat of the matter.
Okay, assume two guys with longswords, neither have improved disarm, but are threatening the other.
A attempts to disarm B, provoking an AOO. As B's AOO, he decides to disarm A, provoking an AOO. Okay, by the book this is straightforward, but from here it gets complicated.
A now starts with an AOO and attempts to disarm B. Let's say he succeds. So now B is disarmed. What options does B have?
1) B continues with the disarm manuver, but now unarmed, suffering penalties to do so.
2) B has lost further actions this turn.
3) The whole scenario is scapped. Basically, all that has happened is a single AOO has taken place. B may now choose to simply attack, or try a trip manuver. Maybe he can even take a move action.
It seems like 1 is very plausible and would fit in the logic of the scenario. 2 would only be the option is 3 wasn't valid, and B choose not to continue further disarms.
The big question is 3. Once you've attempted an action that provokes an AOO, can you then change the action to something else? You would still take the effects of the AOO of course, but would then get to react to those efffects. This would have similar effects to a readied action scenario, for example, I ready an action to move the second the guy is front of me attacks. He attacks, and I move. Can he say the attack never actually was completed, and then do a move action or something else, or is the action wasted?
