How to Package Modules?

I would like to see a (possibly slimmer) PHB with only a few modular options.

I think multiple "modules" can be introduced per splatbook. An Arcane Book that includes additional feats, Backgrounds, themes, classes, etc that are a part of the Core as well as modules for casting variants or layers you can add onto an arcane class.

Or perhaps modules can be introduced via published adventures? Where the adventure is designed with a couple new modules in mind, laid out at the beginning of the book. The adventure can be played with or without the modules, but can still highlight them.

That's what I'm thinking.

I expect the PHB & DMG to be relatively slim just so completely new players & DMs can buy and play without any further assistance.

It would be great if they could understand that people can't afford to spend $100 for the core rules and then spend $50+ for each other book they want. I really wish they could go back to smaller books of under $20(I'd even be fine with book part one and book part two, each at $20 or the massive combined book at $40).

Sadly, I think we will just get more 'trickery'...like where they don't put all the dragons in the first monster manual to 'trick' you into buying the Draconian book.

This is only possible by so many willingly joining the cult of OFFICIAL. The first MM doesn't have the specific monster you want? Extrapolate from whats in the MM and make it up.
