How was X-Men 3 bad?

Too many mutants. It's like they knew this was going to be the last one, so they crammed all the ones they could into the film.
BINGO! We have a winner. I have a huge Marvel collection, including hundreds of X-Men comics, and I had a hard time figuring out who all these characters were. I can't imagine how the general movie-going public felt.

Yeah, some of the plot elements were overdone and with far too many holes, but that could have been compensated for by concentrating on a smaller number of mutants. The first movie did it perfectly, focusing on just enough heroes and villains to keep it intersting but not confusing. The second did well too, introducing primarily just Nightcrawler and Pyro. The third, forget it, even a scorecard wouldn't have helped.
