In today's second short adventure, the PCs:

Were approached by their mongrelfolk adept companion, asking them to investigate a series of unexplained deaths among the mongrelfolk secretly lairing in the city dump
Followed their mongrelfolk NPC to the dump, where they entered from the back via a loose board in the fence
Entered a narrow tunnel in the side of a trash pit, which led to two connected underground chambers
Saw, in the first chamber, two robed mongrelfolk rogues bending over an unmoving human woman wearing elegant clothes (and whose wrists and ankles were bound), while they heard snoring mongrelfolk in the second chamber down a set of natural stone steps
Got yelled at by the rogues that they were trespassing in mongrelfolk territory, and chided the adept for bringing "smooth-skins" from the surface to interfere in their business
Were appalled when the human monk saw (through his mask that provided darkvision) the woman's stomach bulge and move about, eventually determining here were several moving "bulges" inside her abdomen
Ended up fighting off the mongrelfolk rogues, as the woman struggled to her feet (one of the rogues had cut her rope bindings with his short sword), only to have three dregworms explode out of her torso - she'd been kidnapped, forced to swallow dregworm eggs, and had been intended to be sent back up to the surface to infest the "smooth-skins" who looked down upon the hideous mongrelfolk
Had the adept keep the other mongrelfolk in the second chamber (who had been awakened by the fighting) safe where they were
Killed the dregworms and knocked out the two rogues, stealing their short swords and clubs and passing the weapons among their number
Blocked one worm tunnel the monk had discovered with wads of the woman's dress, while the changeling rogue poured his rum down the second worm tunnel (each about the thickness of a human's arm and twisting about so they couldn't see what was at the other end of the tunnels) and the human scout set it ablaze
Were surprised when a wererat climbed down the tunnel, called out to the mongrelfolk to admire how "smooth and sleek" he was, and offered to make them all the same
Blasted the wererat with crossbow bolts and magic missiles when he tried to bite their adept; the wererat then scampered back up the tunnel, only to send down a swarm of rats under his control
Threw three vials of oil in the path of the rats at the end of the tunnel before it opened into the chamber, and had the monk throw a burning torch onto the pool when the rats entered it
Found out the hard way that a small horde of panicked, burning rats swarming over you wasn't particularly fun (as the scout and monk learned)
Frantically attacked the rats with clubs (full damage) or swords (half damage), only for the monk to succumb to being burned alive when his clothes were set ablaze from the burning rats
Had the hengeyokia wu jen's unseen servant drag the monk out of the flames and pat out the flames
Had the adept heal up the monk while the others took out the rat swarm
Attacked the mongrelfolk wererat when he returned, hoping the rat swarm would have done its work for him
Chased him back outside onto the trash heap, where they took him out with crossbow bolts and magic missiles
Offered to dig the worm tunnels wide enough to allow the PCs to take out the whole dregworm nest on the other side, but were told by the grateful mongrelfolk (who'd had no involvement in the rogues' "dregworm bomb" ploy) that they'd be abandoning this haven, going back to the relative safety of sleeping in sewers and alleyways
There was no treasure from this one, other than the two clubs and short swords they took from the defeated mongrelfolk rogues (who they left for the other mongrelfolk to deal with). But, in accordance with this campaign structure, the next time we play they'll go through their fifth adventure, after which time they'll advance to 2nd level. Oh, and the mongrelfolk wererat was an afflicted lycanthrope, so it couldn't have passed on its lycanthropy to its brothers in any case - he was newly turned and didn't fully understand how lycanthropy worked.
