[QUOTE="the Jester, post: 9891472, member: 1210"] My most recent game was run in my custom "D&D Jazz" system. There's a thread about it here somewhere- the Jester's Perfect DnD or something like that. It's going great. The pcs are 3rd level, and the xp system is working great. Basically, rather than giving xp for each monster or trap, the entire session gets a value based on how much of it was spent in danger modified by how rough it actually was- the modifier is larger the more pcs were bloodied, dropped, etc. Then there are xp for roleplaying in four categories- race, class, alignment, and personal concerns- as well as xp for minor and major goals, and catch up xp if you are lower level than the highest level pc. The party was already in a small dungeon that is a torture den of Torog. They had several encounters that were actually a couple of encounters combined (fleeing enemies got reinforcement). These involved cultists, wrackspawn, and osquips that were the cultists' pets. Then they found a young kid being tortured and rescued him. In turn, he led them to a cell block where they rescued a guy who had seen some sort of skeleton with chains dangling off of it and a traumatized elf. They thought there was a dwarf in need, but he turned out to be a wight. I almost got to test out my energy drain mechanic! I guess my only regret about the session- other than most players being remote- is that I didn't get to try my energy drain rules out because 1. I kept missing and 2. The pcs kept making their saves against it when I did hit. Oh well! In the middle of all this, the party found a book and some notes that detailed a lot of lore about Torog, the especially relevant bits being that he formed the Underdark thrashing around in his torment, and that there's this thing called the King's Highway that supposedly taints areas of the Underdark and is basically his trail. The cult intends to magically draw a section of the Highway into the sewers beneath the city in an attempt to free Torog from his eternal torment in the Underdark. We ended with the party pretty banged up but all conscious (after one pc got fed a potion), still deep in the torture den, with three freed victims that they're going to try to get to the city above.
