Message: <blockquote data-quote="Kurotowa" data-source="post: 2735337" data-attributes="member: 27957">I've been playing a Warlock in a campaign starting at 10th level for a couple months now.If you measue power in damage output, he's nothing special.  The Ranger/OotBI can dish out more damage on average, and for each time I Maximize SLA the Paladin can Smite Evil + Power Attack for even more pain.  Eldritch Blast is good, but really not great.That doesn't mean he doesn't have areas to shine in.  Eldritch Blast is reliable; I've missed once all campaign and untyped magical damage is great against high DR critters like Warforged Titans.  We don't have a Rogue, so our SOP is for me to use Baleful Utterance to shoot the lock off.  With Detect Magic at will I'm always on the lookout for hostile enchantments.  Flee the Scene has short range but still lets me carry others, and is great for moving the party around obstacles.  With Beguiling Influance and a Circlet of Persuasion I'm a great face for the party.  And last session I leveled up and took Scribe Scroll, which will let me prepare even more useful utility spells like Invisibility Purge and Cure Disease.So if you want someone to rain down wrath and destruction upon your foes, get a Sorcerer or Warmage.  But if you want a flexable character with a strong bag of tricks, Warlocks work pretty well.</blockquote>
