huge flying mount?

I need a huge flying mount for a herglic knight. The obvious choice to hoist these hill giant sized warriors into aerial battle would be dragons but not only would they not be able to negotiate such a service, huge dragons would overpower the encounter.

Any other huge airborn creatures you can think of that are strong enough to carry a 1,000 lb knight of some kind air born?

I thought Giants always rode around on Rocs. Either that or an advanced Dire Chicken.

Well they are only large size, so a Roc might be a bit much. And advanced chocobo's just doesn't have the right feel for herglic's. :)

Isn't there any creature that you could boost in Hit Dice so it become Huge?

Or they could have a wizard who make permant enlarge creature, it wouldn't boost the creature powers as it is only a level 1 spell effect.

A Griffon, advanced to 11 HD (base is 7) becomes Huge. I've used this one before. They have all sorts of useful abilities, and are INT 5 so you can give them some personality, but their INT means you need to take Leadership.
Likewise there are Spider Eaters (advanced by one HD to 5). They're less powerful and more unusual than griffons, and they're stupid (INT 2).

Interesting suggestions. Maybe a spider eater or a manticore might be fun.

Giant Owls can get up to Gargantuan. Also don't forget, what ever the MM says you can always take creature X and bump it up a few size classes. Or perhaps slap something like the fiendish template on it, which I believe can give wings.

Any one for a fiendish gargantuan Bulette or perhaps a huge half dragon humming bird?

Actually, they changed that for 3.5E. Giant Owls and Giant Eagles can only go up to Huge now. Besides, I'd be really careful about taking a mount that's often smarter than you are (INT 10). I played a Giant Owl Psion in a monster-race campaign for fun. Everyone thought I was the Paladin's mount, when in fact he was my Cohort.

Heh. I ended up using the nice advanced nightmares already in the MM 3.5.

Very useful those occasional pre-advanced pre-templated creatures spread occasionally through the book.
