As with any good fiction, different people will see different aspects as fundamental to a main character.What is more interesting, to me at least, is looking for where the game designers pulled inspiration from and built it into the game design. (Not to stoke the flames, but in 3.x and Pathfinder, the designers specifically designed many ranger abilities based on Aragorn.
