I know a lot of newbies have heard the term munchkin or drama queen before and are confused about them. I thought that I would help to clarify the situation by presenting how the munchkin and drama queen would react to situations in game. Hope this helps clear things up! Example 1: Call of Cthulu d20 Munchkin: CRITICAL HIT! My 20th level investigator just took out Cthulu! Booyah! ____________________________________________________ Drama Queen playing DM: You've failed your madness check. Roll on the insanity table. Drama Queen: Alright! Insanity! I've had a lot of experience playing characters with some sort of insanity. My role as Hamlet gave me the experience of playing a character who is both depressed and has himself fixiated upon the a single goal........ ____________________________________________________ Example 2: Dungeons and Dragons DM: Out of the darkness you see 20 orcs lunge out of the tree to attack you! Munchkin: No problem! With my ultimate improved initiative and my two finessed +5 vorpal scimitars (along with the perfect two-weapon fighting feat) I should be able to take them all down in one round! ____________________________________________________ DM: Out of the darkness you see 20 orcs lunge out of the tree and attack you! Drama Queen: Alas! Alack! Why am I forced to live this life of the sword? 'Tis said that those who live by the sword will die by the sword. Ne'er before has such a statement rung so true. Once again I am forced to take up the sword to defend myself. I simply pray that I am not forced to shed more blood than..... DM (interupting): Okay while you're talking an orc attacks you for 5 points of damage! Drama Queen: Woe is to me! ____________________________________________________ Example 3 Losing a character DM: CRITICAL HIT, 40 points of damage. You're dead! Munchkin1: What!? My Epic toughness and Resist Death feats didn't keep me alive? NO FAIR! Munchkin2: Whoa dude he just wasted you're character! Munchkin1: Well for my new character can I at least play as a clone as my previous one? ____________________________________________________ DM: Critical hit, 40 points of damage. You're dead! Drama Queen 1: Not so wide as a church door, nor so deep as a well, but 'twill suffice. Drama Queen 2: Alas he hast fallen. No breath no pulse! Alas thou art truly dead! Munchkins speak in terms of 'Booyah!', 'layin' the smack down!', 'critical hits', and 'fwack-boom' Drama Queens speak in terms of 'Alas!', 'Alack', and 'Woe is to me'. Hope these examples helped clear up any confusion!
