Tonight we played Rogue Trader, exploring the Witch-Cursed World, which we discovered a) was a giant hunk of crystal that occasionally came alive as screeching gem-hided mantis-shrimp monsters the size of horses, b) caused our skills to invert, so if you had a 30% skill rating you'd succeed on a 31 or higher (normally it's 30 or lower), and c) had a black hole factory powered by clones of our soulless arch-militant (i.e., the toughest guy on our ship, who by dint of not having a soul is immune to a lot of magic and psychic powers). After crashing onto the planet (because our excellent pilot kept rolling well), we fought several of the crystalline mantis beasts. They were unharmed by laser attacks, which just refracted through them, but they got really freaked out by them. Our psyker communicated with them telepathically, and combined with flash bang grenades we scared the horde away (he's very meek normally, so his intimidation checks worked great). We captured one, however, and learned that these creatures think we're demons, because we come from another reality and we wield unnatural light tendrils that harm their souls. This just tickled our psyker pink, because while he's consorted with demons before, he's never been called one. Our prisoner informed us that the other demons with their light tendrils hid behind a screaming barrier (a sonic fence) that could shatter the flesh of his creatures, but which demons could pass through unharmed. After some private discussion, we got a little silly and decided to prop up this particular mantis beast, whom we named Master, as lord of his hivemind race. We pretended to be subservient to him, and convinced him that he had not been defeated by us demons, but rather had called us to him, because he was in charge. We pledged to drive out the other demons (and to kill their children and devour their mates, but we chalked that up to cultural differences). The plan was for us to go through the barrier, then drop it and let Master lead his people through to slaughter all the demons within. Upon hearing this plan, Master's mandibles chittered with pleasure, and he ordered us to carry him upon a litter so he could behold the destruction of the barrier. The session ended with a few thousand horrible crystalline mantis shrimp monsters tearing a few thousand helpless mooks working for our enemies to shreds. Oh, and our psyker fell through a black hole and out popped a nega-verse version of him with a goatee.
