True Names have always struck me as an iffy mechanic unless the entire culture is built around them.

But tying it to languages is a good idea. And here's another...

True names hail from a pre-random cataclysm/judgement era. They have power.

Post the event all the languages shifted though they are related to true names.

So someone who knows a lot of the non-lost languages has a better chance of approximating the true name.

This allows for degrees of true name where the lowest degree gets your attention if you hear it shouted at you from across the room and the highest degree can cause someone to order you back into the hell from whence you came.

In my case somewhere in Southern California.
