Last session, something odd happened. Now, the first encounter was with a pair of monstrous spiders. They attacked an AC 20 character, with +9 fort. They both hit. He rolled a 1 and a 3 on his fort save. He tried to disengage, but both attackos of opportunity hit. He rolled a 2 and a 1 on his for save. He fell down, paralyzed. Secondary damage reduced his STR to the tegative teens. Well, soon after the PCs were taken captive, and put in coccoons of wood and moss hanging 300 feet above roiling fog. One character anchored a rope to their coccoon, climbed down into the fog, got zapped by the Psychic Sphere of Specialness. He decided to whack it with a GREATAXE! Crystal sphere vs. greataxe, you know what happens. So, psychic fire races up the rope, incinerates the pods, brings the paralyzed character down to 4 HP. He then promptly falls 300 feet through the air, the pod having been burned out from beneath him. Well, 30d6 falling damage, paralyzed characters don't really get to make jump, tumble, or reflex checks. Ouch. But that's not all: He fell into a goup filled with Puppetteer (you know, evil psionic slugs that control your brain) breeding pool. He then drowned, and got mind controlled about 30 times. In addition, the pool became electrified from the exploding crystal sphere. Over the course of his stay in the pool (before the larvae got control of his synaptic reflexes), he took about 13d4 more electricity damage, and about 13 acid damage due to the nature of the spawning pool. So, have you ever had one of your charcters be poisoned, paralyzed, burned, killed by falling damage, drowned, shocked, and corroded by acid, all in 1 session? (okay, I'll admit he actually died after the fall, after that I [being the GM] just wanted to make his death as pitious as possible. :D)
