Maybe it can't be explained, like trying to explain how your favorite food tastes to another person.  I know there are things on the mere "shallow" immersion side, coupled with metagaming techniques, for story telling, that I find valuable as story telling*, that are apparently also hard to explain to someone who hasn't experienced them.  * i.e. not because I like gamist play, or tactical play, or board games in my RPGs, or however you want to put it. I do enjoy some of those things in moderation, but this is a storytelling technique I am referencing here.</blockquote>
