I fear not Squirrel Ninja & Barbarians!!!! (Was Need Brass Balls).

Well,

I am in search of some Brass Balls.

I have some Lead Balls for right now, but they just don't look as good.

Definitly in need of some, nice, heavy, polished Brass Balls right now.

Does anybody know a good place to find some Brass Balls?

So far everyplace I've looked has been completly barren in the Balls Department.

Where do you get your Brass Balls from?

Thanks,

Ummmm......

Maybe I should expand upon my need for some heavy balls.

I need somthing to keep the squirrels from tipping over my birdfeeders.

I have these little window birdfeeders that have a suction cup to the window & a little removable tray you put the birdseed in.

Everything was going fine (except the baby finches were starting to sleep in the trays) until two week ago. That was when one of the squirrels realized it had +20 Climb & +20 Jump & could take 10 to climb the brick wall & jump over to the feeder.

It does this until it flips over the little tray of seed & then vacuums down.

I tied some heavy Lead Fishing Weights to the bottom of the Tray. Despite the Squirrels determination, it can't flip them over now.

But, having Lead Fishing Weights dangling from your windows isn't the most sometic of choice. So I was hoping to find some decorative Brass Balls to switch too.

However, your average Wal-mart type store doesn't seem to have any (or I'm looking in the wrong area).

Curious as to those Hobbists out there, where they go for those type of things.

There, that's better.

I need Brass Balls to deal with my Squirrels.

Edit:

See new Post, I have defeated my Squirrel Foes.

Hmm ... what about some wind chimes? :\

They'd have to be small.

You see, the Tray Nests in a Round Plastic hole at the Bottom & it has a little roof at the top to keep rain off.

I need something no more than 2-3 Inches long in order to be able to still lift the Tray Out when it is empty or when I need to Clean it.

Most wind chimes are way too long to do that.

This is what I got

I got some of everything but the Window Cafe.

Plus, in order to keep the Mess Down I use Shelled Sunflower Seeds, which is sort of like Already Unwrapped Candy to Squirrels.

Sure are pretty little bird feeders! :)

Hmm ... To be honest I am still having some difficulty "visualizing" where you exactly want to put the brass ball weights (not that it matters much to your post, perhaps, but maybe an articulation will help others brains to think of something?)....

Have to be small to life the thing out - I assume the tray is removable and then "set" in a pre-made hole in the bird feeder? Tricky. So you are tying the weights onto the ...bottom ... of the insertable tray? Or to the sides of the tray (the top "edge") that the squirrel is actually "tipping" over? How are you attaching the "weights" to the tray?

They DO make very small wind chimes ... such as are, say, 2-3 inches long and that hang on strings, thus making the pulling in and out of the tray hole a little easier....

Well.

Sometimes the best Solution is the Simplest one.

I was trying some sort of complex, Weight/Counterweight Squirrel Deterent System.

Then I was at Wal-Mart and Noticed some Screws with Bolts.

So I took the Dremmel & put holes in the Removable Cups and Base & screwed the 2 Parts Together.

No more shall Ninja Squirrel (Pic below) tip over my feeders.

The I was also having a bit of Problem with a Squirrel Barbarion that had manged to Drag off 4 Consecutive Squirrel Feeders off into the woods (3 or which have simply vanished). The little bastard manged to drag off a half of a 2x4!!! (Pic below. We've named him Ballsy because of his attitude. Yep, his attitude).

But I've fixed his little wagon Now. I've attached a new feeder to a Dog Stake rated for a German Shepard. No matter how much he rages, he ain't making off with that anytime soon!

Yep, 4 Trips to Wal-Mart & Nearly 50 Bucks Later &

I HAVE DEFEATED THE SQUIRRELS!!!!!!!!!!

My wife is very proud.

Patted me on the head & said "That's nice dear. Very good for you."

Vraille,

Wasn't it you who had the neighbor who was the Nasty Cat Lady?

Yes,

It's the Slum Lord who owns the house Behind us. In the 18 months we lived here, there have been 3 tenants.

1. Quiet guy. Lived there with his son. Got busted for Meth.

2. Mean Cat Lady. Left (fled) when Goverment Officals (Animal Control) started stopping by asking questions. Left house as disaster area (6 months of Cat Crap in the Basement).

3. Young Couple (early 20's I'm guessing). Have about 4 kids. They clearly are living there because they can't afford anything else. They pretty nice.

However, that house (which people tell me was really nice about 5 years agoe before he bought it) is quickly being run into the ground. There is a tree with branhces scraping the roof, the back porch is falling down (Landlord "Fixed" it by putting up plank braces), Brick mortar is crumbling, and the woodpeckers are beginning to drill into the woodwork looking for bugs (and seeming to have some success).

We are beginning to look for a new house now.

I have a full-time job with benefits so we can afford something much nicer. We are just going to take our time & wait until the ideal home comes along.

What is it with that house and small "innocent" animals?

I've had similiar issues but with raccoons whom are devilishly smart and cunning.
