I found a random name generator!

I found a random name generator, based off of the US census. It makes male and female names. You can set how obscure you want the name to be. This could be good for random human names of NPCs (or even PCs) in D&D.

Right here!

Cool, particularly if you already use ethnic overlays for cultures in fantasy games (i.e. Dwarves = Germanic, Elves = oh, maybe Finnish :)

Finnish?

Welsh! Just to annoy Forrester!

I trust you all know how to generate random names using a D20 and a D6?

Roll the D6: 1-2=vowel; 3-5=consonant; 6=end name
For a vowel, roll a D6:
1=a
2=e
3=i
4=o
5=u
6=y (or w, if you're Welsh)

For a consonant, roll the D20
1=b
2=c
3=d
4=f
5=g
6=h
7=j
8=k
9=l
10=m
11=n
12=p
13=q
14=r
15=s
16=t
17=v
18=w
19=x
20=z

Oh, how fondly I remember playing J'hus'dwi!

Heh, this is how our races are:

Elves = French
Gnomes = Irish/Scottish
Dwarves = German/Rumanian/Russian
Halflings = Texan or other deep south (Howdy partner)
Half-Orc = They are very gruff and dumb sounding, using simple words. One player had his Half-Orc character speaking like Warf from Star Trek.

We have other species that we ran into which took on such characteristics. Our Treants are Canadian!

We also have regional slang. For example, the children that live in the slums of a bustling city have that street talk. Basically, Ebonics. Think of how your average Rapper talks, you'll get the drift. What up, G?

It makes for a very entertaining session. Especially because people tend to inadvertantly drift to the different accents. When the Elf (Frenchman) is speaking, the Dwarf (German) who answers him accidentally speaks in the French accent because it is so contagious. I did this so much during our game that when I leveled up, I took Elvish as my language just so I had an excuse as to why I kept drifting into that accent.

Hehe, good times, good times...

Halflings - French, because of good, good food. Good food.
Elves - Italiano, because of all of the vowels at the end. Seems to make it more flowing.
Hill Dwarves - German
Mountain Dwarves - Russian
Gnomes - Japanese, because of both of the races kinship with weird inventions
