OK, I've finished reading the first two history chapters - The Crown Wars and the God-Kings of the East. I'll describe the God-Kings chapter to show how the book in general is put together. After a brief introduction that tells you what the chapter is all about, it starts with history, especially with a timeline. The Chapter describes the rise and fall of five Empires: Imaskar, Mulhorand, Unther, Narfell and Raumathar. The timeline describes the events involving those five realms (which are connected to each other). After that we have "Keepers of the Past", which tells you where PC's could get the information the chapter provides. It has a table that links Knowledge (History) DC's to facts recovered. Example: DC 10 - Basic information (Narfell and Raumathar were great empires that coexisted with Mulhorand and Unther but fell long ago.) It also lists two specific locations of libraries where you can obtain information. Songs and stories describes exactly that: Stories told about the past and songs they sing about it. It is short in many chapters, but there are a couple of longer ones in others (the one about the Crown Wars is quite large, as is the one about Cormanthyr) Next is Important Sites. It is divided by the five empires and then describes the several locations within each, in their present state. Some of them have some background information about its past, ans some list current inhabitants. Legacies of the Old Empires tells of the effects the past has on the present: In Adventure seeds we have some, well, adventure seeds. Buried Secrets has stuff that could be of use to today's inhabitants, and Heirs ot the Empire lists the realms, nations, and peoples that are the descendants of the old empires and its populace. This Chapter has also an Adventure Site. Sonjar's tower, a 60-foot, three-story tower located within a huge geode in the desert. It belonged to an Imaskari artificer in the days of old, but today a band of drow mercenaries have taken over the place. The whole complex (tower and accompanying chambers) make heavy use of portals for entrance, supply of air, water, heat, waste disposal, and even view.
