Last night I got to use all the coolness of being a monk/shadowdancer. Reader's Digest version of set up events: Two of our party members are persued by a doppleganger assassin from their shadowy past. He's got some really good intelligence, so he knows when we're setting an ambush for him. So one of our party members (unbeknownst to the rest of us players) contrived to have the two hunted PCs arrested on trumped up charges. My monk and our bard went to the head of the city to explain how some terrible mistake had been made, but he wasn't buying it. While we argued, an important NPC started acting strangely in the prison, and our arrested PCs thought he was the doppleganger assassin. So they yelled for help thru our telepathic bond. Here's where my monk kicks in. I Abundant Step into the cellblock and Hide in Plain Sight. As of yet, nothing threatening has happened, so I just wait, and no one knows I'm there. Two doppleganger assassins (one is just there for teleporting) teleport into the jail cell. I Empty Body into the cell and activate a bunch of magic items (ring of Abundant Virtue, Cloak of Displacement). I can't attack this round because I'm ethereal. The assassin catches both "prisioners" flatfooted, and hits one with 3 sneak attacks (140+ hp damage) and the other with 2 (70 hp damage). Both are poisoned. Our sorcerers both hit the assassin with disintegrates, but he makes both saves and takes minimal damage. Then I go. By now we know his AC, and everyone's pretty sure I'm going to light him up like a roman candle. The whole group has been tense up to this point, and now they're excited. So I throw everything in, "First attack, Quivering Palm." hit, "Save or Die!" failed save... dead. I was also going to use Stunning Fist, but he died too soon! (I just rolled an example of the combat, and it came out to 168 hp damage.) The second guy had a readied action to teleport out, so he did. But in three rounds I got to use Abundant Step Hide in Plain Sight Empty Body Quivering Palm All my best abilities in one fight! Woo hoo! It's the first time in 20+ years of gaming that I've seen a Quivering Palm work. PS
