Everybody go to the Internet Movie Database. Type in "Last Unicorn" to the search box. You'll get two results. One for 1982, and one for... 2003. It's listed as being in post-production with "CGI characters being animated." It's only got three members of the cast listed--the skull, Mommy Fortuna, and King Haggard--and all three are listed as the same actors--Rene Auberjonois, Angela Lansbury, and Christopher Lee--as they were in the original. So I saw this, and I wondered. Are they animating new visuals but keeping the old sound and voices? Are they making a new CGI movie with new lines, but keeping some of the old actors? Are they filming a live-action movie with CGI special effects? What's going on here? Then the "official site" link was pointed out to me, and I did so. It looks very much like they're actually making a live action Last Unicorn movie with CGI monsters and special effects! :) :D :) I don't know about all of you, but I'm stoked. If done right, this could be just about the coolest thing to hit the screen in a long time. (Well, except for LotR, of course.) The Last Unicorn is a beautiful story, and the cartoon, while cool in many ways, simply never could do it justice. And I love the fact that they appear to keeping at least parts of the original voice cast. After all, Lee and Lansbury are actually physically now in the right shape to portray those characters. Anyway, figured you'd all be interested. The official site is here, if you want to see more.
