I have 68 Marvels from the 70's inbound...

Went moderately crazy and bought a GRIP of 70's classics from my youth as a Christmas present for myself. Included are:

A full run of the Invaders (1-42)
Chris Claremont's run on Marvel Team Up (including some real classics, team-ups with Iron Fist, Nick Fury, Shang Chi, Nightcrawler)
The entire Claremont/Byrne run on Power Man/Iron Fist (48-56 or so) plus a chunk of the Mary Jo Duffy era (including the Iron Fist/Sabertooth throwdown).

I only paid more than .80 cents for two comics (both Power Man/Iron Fist comics) so I don't have to treat them with kid gloves. I can actually READ them and loan them to friends.

I haven't read any of these comics since I was a kid in the 70's. Will I think they suck now? Wouldn't that be disappointing.

Anyway, Im geeked.

You might enjoy them more :) The Power Man/Iron Fist team-up is one of the best books I've ever read. I have the entire series from Power Man #1 through when it changes to Power Man/Iron Fist, then through to the end of the series with Iron Fist's suppossed death. Great, great stuff. A lot of things like that you can also get in the Essentials line, if you don't mind black and white.

Yeah, Im not as worried about the Power Man/Iron Fist myself, as I read those books so many times back in the day that I have much stronger memories of them.

On the other hand, I also remember vividly feeling that Claremont's 4-issue arc of Marvel Team-Up with Spider-Man getting wrapped up in (and way over his head in) some serious spy games, an arc that eventually involved Black Widow, Nick Fury and Shang Chi as one of the MOST AWESOME comics ever. But other than a rememberance of awesomeness, I have very little memories of it.

Still, on the basis of it being written by Claremont, I am willing to bet it's good.

But the Invaders? Very vague memories of Union Jack being the coolest hero ever, plus a lifelong love of Cap and Roy Thomas is really all I was going on. Again I remember feeling they were awesome as a kid. Will that feeling stick?

In other news, I actually discovered the site where I bought these comics looking for the Deadly Hands of Kung Fu b/w magazines from the 70's, perhaps one of my fondest childhood memories.

But I could not bring myself to pay $10-40 dollars each for them.

In other words, if I had gone through with my original plan (picking up some Deadly Hands of Kung Fu) I'd have 3 comics on the way, rather than 70.

Cool stuff. I've actually wanted the entire run of Invaders and never got around to it.

The John Byrne Iron Fist stuff should be worth something, I would think. I know I have about 8 issues or so of the Byrne Iron Fist (no power man), and those were worth something last I checked. Good stuff.

I know Iron Fist #14, the first appearance of Sabertooth, varies between overpriced and STUPIDLY overpriced.

But if you like the Invaders, as I do, I'd go and get them. The complete run of books cost me about 35 bucks. Well worth having.
