Cannot believe no one has started a thread like this yet, but for starters, the cover is Brown. Yes, Brown.

There are worse colors than brown. Pink for example.

I too have the book. Oh wait no I'll have the book soon. But I have held it and saw it in Barnes and Noble here in West Virigina. So despair not. It will appear soon enough!

Greylock, for comparison sakes,

What was your favorite chapters/stuff?

Not used to being called Greylock anymore, I so rarely post here nowadays. :)

My knee jerk reaction overall is kind of meh. Some of the things I was so excited about really didn't come out like I hoped. I give it a B-, C+ so far. Grant you, my opinion will probably improve over time. So, starting with my least favorite chapter, that vote goes to "Expanded Classes." All fluff, almost no crunch. Not what I expected at all.

Now, I am not all against fluff. The "Building your Identity" chapter is nice. But I guess my early vote for best goes to Spells. Some nice ones here. The Feats are OK.

The new base classes dissappoint. I wish there was a little more leeway in spell choices for the arcane variants. The knight didn't do anything for me.

And I wonder why there is a huge chapter on building NPCs. Scratching my head over that.

Two very odd feats. Fade into Violence allows you to pick an opponent. He makes a Sense Motive check against your Bluff if threatened by you and another. If you win the roll, he only attacks your comrade. If you attack or cast a spell, the benefit ends.

Keen-Eared Scout allows for more detailed info on a Listen check depending on how well you beat the DC. To be honest, every DM I've played with uses Listen that way.

Oh, and the Duskblade is also Brown. I repeat, Brown.

Sorry, I had higher expectations for the artwork, after Tome of Magic.

Give me one or two days and I'll join the dance here.
It's brown like say... the Complete series books? The "standard" brown? And what about the interior layout?

 *gasp* Heretic! It's Players Handbook Brown, of course.

The interior layout is not so different from the other recent WotC releases. The Feats section is broken up in segments, like the Feats in RotD, but more so, because there are more segments. Difficult to find what you are looking for without flipping around a bit.

The artwork is a real let down.

Mine came in yesterday... I've not had time to dig deep into it, but the Pre-Crash thread pretty much covered everything. Suffice to say I like pretty much all I've seen so far.

Got mine today too, I have to say the two spellcasters gave me a double take.

The Beguiler is a Thief/ Sorcerer and the Duskblade is a Fighter/ Sorcerer.

The Beguiler knows all spells on his spell list at every level he has access to and can cast a number of spells per day like a Sorcerer. And while his spell list is rather limited he does get several free feats; Armored casting, silent spell, still spell, spell penetration and spell focus.

The Duskblade has a much more limited number of spells known, basically he gets one every level but makes up for it with 4 first level spells as a spell-like ability and several bonus feats; armored casting, combat casting, quicken spell and spell penetration. He has access to spells up to 5th level but at 20th level, he can cast 6 zero, 10 first, 10 second, 10 third, 8 fourth and 6 fifth level spells per day.

Maybe it is just me, but aside from their limited spell list, they seem to be better spellcasters than a true Wizard or Sorcerer. When you add in their Thief and Fighter abilities they may outshine the true Wizards and Sorcerers.
