I Just Hocked Up a Gooey Hockey Thread

Ahh, hockey. My love of the game has caused Mark (of CMG fame) to dub me "Hockey Head." And it's true!

The Rangers are doing okay this season...much better (so far) than the last few, although they got swept in the home-and-home with Toronto this week. (Stupid refs!) My wife and I are going to the Dec. 26th Rangers/Leafs game at MSG...there's bad blood, which means a great game!

So, howzabout all of you hockey heads out there? How's your team doing? How about those Capitals? How 'bout those Fishsticks? ;)

Some day my Sharkies will win it all. I don't live in San Jose anymore, but they were the only true home team I had in professional sports. Went to a couple games. Few things are more exciting than a live professional hockey game.

i went to my first hockey game last year. having never been, but loving any live sports or music, my wife came home and announced she had purchased 3 tickets to game 7 of the championship minor league series being held in n. mississippi (memphis riverkings) the next night.

we were 2 rows form the ice and just 1 seat from a penalty box.

it wasn't too violent a game, who wants to get thrown out in game 7? but i had a blast. some of the rules were beyond me but people kept getting slammed into the "glass" right in front of us.

any game where crossing the floor wrong is a penalty but you can blow a guy flat off his feet legally strikes a chord in the chaotic, art-fueling heart of me somewhere....

Good for you, Clay! My first hockey game was a NY Rangers match when I was about 10...I got to meet Don Maloney and a bunch of other players after the game. Quite a good time.

My wife and I see a Rangers game every December at MSG, and a few Capitals games a year in DC. Really, nothing beats live hockey.

Indeed. And it can be quite beautiful to watch. A chaotic order and an ordered chaos. Eris be praised.

I've always appreciated it from a distance. We don't have a team in Seattle, the local networks never cover it, and its hard to know when and where to catch it on cable, but in general I think hockey is one of the coolest, most underappreciated sports in the US.

exactly my sentiments. but also I like the Red WIngs :D

I'm a huge Red Wings fan, though I also root for the Blues, except in head-to-head combats.

For a few years I was a Sharks fan, since they were the local team, and now I watch a lot of Bruins action on NESN.

I love being in Vermont, because in addition to ESPN, ESPN2 (love NHL2Night), there is NESN, and CBT, which gives me Canadian games, sometimes back to back. It's better than growing up in Michigan, where I got the Wings regularly, and the Leafs if I was in the right area.

It's amazing what playing a little defense will do to the old win loss record. If they keep that up and manage to stay healthy they may even make the playoffs, Of course I hope they don't (have to focus my energy somewhere, since there's no way the Devils aren't making the postseason).

36 points in 24 games and only three (regulation) losses (as of this very minute), so pretty good! And completely meaningless if they don't accomplish something in the playoffs.

Baraendur I was in a similar position as you about ten years ago, I liked the game but with cable (at the time) or a network deal for the NHL, I was stuck with the olympics every four years.

As Tom said ESPN has Thursday night games at 8:00 (should be every week from here on out), ESPN2 has games on most Sunday nights, with games sprinkled throughout the week. Starting with the All-star game ABC will start broadcasting games on Saturday's as well. ESPN has a TV listings page you can check.

This is a good place to live because I get ESPN, ESPN2, MSG, FSN NY, and YES, so I have plenty of games to watch. I just wish I understood the leagues blackout policy, can anyone explain it?

I think it has something to do with...uh...no, I can't explain it. :D

I get NHL Center Ice, so I watch just about everything, including Hockey Night in Canada on saturdays with the peerless Ron McLean and Don Cherry.

I'd better run...the 1st Rangers/Islanders game of the year is starting now! Go Rangers!

Hey, Welv...here's a picture you might like. The caption is "BOOSH!!!"
