Message: <blockquote data-quote="Angcuru" data-source="post: 1884511" data-attributes="member: 10948">That's damn cool.[rant]But science answers its own question of the in/finitness of the universe with the proven law of conservation of matter/energy.  The amount of matter and energy in the universe it constant, though it is constantly changing shape, form, and position.  So, the simple fact is that it cannot have been created and cannot be destroyed.  It can be altered in horrific and unimaginable ways so that it may as well be destroyed for our puporses, but it will always be here.  The term universe itself is curious.  It tries to identify all that exists as a single mass, essentially trying to force existence itself into the form of an object.  That said, examine the atom.  A central core/nucleus with surrounding bits of energy that orbit as satellites.  The smallest form of matter that we percieve, but it may yet be the case that there are smaller bits within these which we simple cannot identify yet.  Now examine singularities(one of which being our solar system).  A central core/star with surrounding masses that orbit as planets.  Now examine galaxies.  A central (galactic) core with orbiting clusters of energy and matter I.E. singularities.  We cannot yet percieve the next level of which galaxies are part, but it is assuredly there.  After that, another level, and another, and so on.So we can see in these models that there are different levels of existence.  Some within others, some with others within.  And yet they are all part of one another, all existing on different levels but in the same general pattern.  All combined they form what we term the universe.  At one time we humans 'knew' that our own world was the universe.  Then we looked up at the stars and saw that there were other worlds, so we 'knew' that ours was the center of the universe.  Then we saw that our worlds were part of a cluster of worlds, and 'knew' our star to be the center of the universe.  Then we realized that our star was part of a cluster of other stars, so somewhere at the center of this cluster has to be something, so we 'knew' this thing to be the center of the universe.  Then we saw other clusters of stars and what we 'knew' was proven wrong.  So where did the universe come from?  Has it always been here?  Or did something, some 'god' create it.  If so, then that created that 'god'?  The created always has to have a creator, so the whole argument of creation collapses in upon itself under its own weight.Simple fact is that we have always been wrong and will always be wrong.Anything that is, is the sum of its parts.  But we don't yet know how many parts there are to 'the universe'.  We cannot conceive that there is no center, no purpose to everything that is.  So we create it.  Like time and god, the universe does not really exist.  It is a term we use to make ourselves confortable, and like time and god, is a concept created to try and explain what we ourselves cannot.  It is a limit we place upon ourselves and our imagination, which we are constantly redefining and trying to tear down and replace with something new, innovative, convenient and comfortable.So in the end, the whole damn thing, all the theories and ideas share the same ultimate goal of achieving comfort.  But the seach itself is uncomfortable.  All of our attemts to explain away existence have only lead to conflict, suffering, confusion, ignorance, and misplaced zeal.  STOP IT ALREADY!  Put down your telescope, throw away your prayer book, and live your life.  Whatever makes you happy, do it.  Kiss your wife, read a book, play a game, whatever works for you.  If you aren't, then you are only contributing to your own misery or the misery of others.  Stop thinking about the meaning of your life in this world and live it already.[/rant]</blockquote>
