Dude. I wrote about my play experience for over half of my post. Not theory. Practice. If you find that you're spamming eldritch blast and doing nothing else, there is a lot more you can be doing. My warlock was 9th level when the party suffered a TPK. His Rod of the Pact Keeper gave him one extra spell per LR and he got two spells in 5th level slots per SR. That was basically one spell slot per battle. He also had a wand of fireballs that he used - a lot. He rarely used the 7th charge, but few days ended with it having more than 1 charge left. That meant rounds 1 and 2 of a combat were usually spent on a fireball or using a spell slot... although he sometimes did something else for round 1 (like use a scroll). Additionally, there were a good number of combats where he looked at what the group was facing and decided just to spam Eldritch Blast because they didn't need more than that for the battle in question - especially in battles against few foes where the PCs locked down the enemy before he even went. When a battle was in the third or fourth round and still needed something other than just damage, he could cast unlimited Silent Image, and 5 non-Eldritch Blast cantrips. Or, he could use an extra fireball or spell slot if he wanted to rob Peter to pay Paul. He invested funds in a few spell scrolls and potions (he always had a few Hex scrolls, often a couple 2nd level scrolls like Invisibility or Darkness, too). Outside of combat he also had a litany of rituals, so he felt like he contributed there as well. Yes, there were big battles where he had nothing left in the tank. Down to his last fireball (and not wanting to risk losing the wand), no spell slots, no scrolls - just illusions and cantrips as options and a big foe to face. However, I've had it worse with my wizard. The wizard didn't have unlimited Silent Images, not were his cantrips as effective or versatile.
