I Need a Good Gaming Table

Chaldfont

First Post
So last week, right before the fight with the dragon, my ancient gaming table collapsed in a heap of dryrot. So now I'm in the market for a new gaming table. I was looking at the 72" X 30" folding tables you can get from places like Office Max, but 30 inches seems a little narrow.

Anyone have any recomendations?

I'm in a similar situation. I'm looking for a gaming table to use for my solo-campaign. I was thinking about picking up one of those small folding tables. I think they may be called "poker tables?" I think they come in a set with chairs. Currently, we are gaming on my bed, which I really don't like and find uncomfortable.

Buy a folding table; they're not too bad. The 30" is a little narrow, but not intolerable. If you hate it, buy a 4'x8' sheet of plywood and lay on top of it. You can also nail a couple of pieces of wood at each corner on the underside to prevent it "slipping" off the tabletop. Then you can paint it with a heavy-duty white gloss paint and put down sharpie marker gridlines. Use grease pencil or wet-erase markers and you have a giant tabletop battlemat. Works quite well.

I just went to office max and ordered two folding leg tables, both really long, and then placed them side by side. I then got a smaller folding leg table to put at the GM end of the table, to the side, for additional tablespace for the GM. It gives enough room for 6 or even 8 players to comfortably sit around it and the DM table can hold quite a lot.

The big bonus was it was relatively cheap and easy to order from office max.

On this page you can find a more reasonable, "ultimate gaming table" complete with materials list and instructions.

Naturally, there are many ways one can simplify this, but if you talk to a local carpenter he might be able to help make sure you get the best bang for your buck. I had a carpenter make me a nice corner-style office desk and a 6' bookcase, both much sturdier than those sold at Office Depot, and paid only for materials, as I was able to barter my own skills to him as a fair trade.

Holy cow, Haiiro, I googled that page right after I posted. What a table! That Message Delivery System really blows my mind.

I may actually fix the old table. But I'd really like to build one like the sites above.

Use two of them side by side. 5' X 8' makes a great table, that's what I use, and I regularly fit 9 at the table.
