Yeah, Bankoutsu calls it his halberd, but that's probably just some fluke of translation or artistic license. It's basically a nicer-looking version of Cloud Strife's buster sword (looking less like a giant, clumsy meat cleaver and a bit more like a big sword). Keep in mind that Bankoutsu pretty obviously has the Monkey Grip feat and such. Treat it as either a Mercurial Greatsword, Fullblade, or a Huge Mercurial Greatsword, stat-wise. Check the Arms & Equipment Guide. These are all exotic weapons. A mercurial greatsword is 2d6 slashing/20/x4/large/17 lbs., and 600 gp. A fullblade/ogre's greatsword is 2d8 slashing/19-20/x2/huge/23 lbs., and 100 gp. A huge mercurial greatsword would be kinda absurd; the boost from large to huge size makes it 4d6 slashing/20/x4/huge/26 lbs., and 900 gp. Technically the Fullblade's description says it can't be used one-handed by a Medium-sized character at all, so I'd probably suggest the insane stats for a huge mercurial greatsword. :D But, A&EG is technically 3.0/3.25, so the 3.5 PH's rules for using differently-sized weapons may negate that restriction (the fullblade is just a huge greatsword after all). With Monkey Grip, Exotic Weapon Proficiency, and the entirety of feats available to a Fighter in boosting his skill with a particular weapon, you'd basically have Bankoutsu and his Banryu. Alternatively: You could try my stats for Zanmato/Zanbattou, that I modeled after Sannouske Sagara's (IIR the name correctly) massive sword in Rurouni Kenshin (the historical basis for it actually has a wooden core though). The Monkey Grip feat can probably be used to wield the Zanmato one-handed if sufficiently strong. My version of the Zanmato is a Large exotic weapon, but just barely small enough for that (and that's in 3.0 terms; in 3.5 terms it's a Medium two-handed exotic weapon). Note that my weight value for it is meant to be just a bit more realistic than what D&D normally gives weapons (still a freakin' heavy weapon).
Zanmato (Zanbattou) 90 gp 14 lbs. AC 4/Hardness 10/HP 13/Break DC 20 4d4 (Slashing) or 1d8 (Piercing) T/C 20/x3 (19-20/x2 Piercing) * A zanmato can be used as a martial melee weapon if held two-handed by a character of large size, or one-handed by a larger character. To wield the zanmato two-handed requires Strength of at least 15, and this is a prerequisite for gaining any two-handed zanmato proficiency, while a Strength of 19 is required if the zanmato is to be wielded one-handed, and likewise any one-handed zanmato proficiency has a Strength prerequisite of 19+. Size limitations to wielding a weapon one-handed still apply. * The zanmato's great size incurs a -3 circumstance penalty on all attack rolls with it unless the user is at least large-sized, regardless of proficiency, and this stacks with any nonproficiency penalties when applicable. Likewise, unless the user is at least large-sized or has Strength of at least 19, they cannot perform a full-attack action with the zanmato and cannot threaten an area with it. * A zanmato has reach, and can be used to strike an opponent up to 10 feet away. However, the zanmato deals only 1d6 slashing damage to opponents within 5 feet, cannot be used for piercing damage against opponents within 5 feet, incurs a -3 attack penalty against opponents within 5 feet, and has its threat range reduced by half against opponents within 5 feet. * Any proficient character wielding the zanmato may use it to perform a Whirlwind Attack, as per the feat, but without need for that feat, and striking all opponents beyond 5 feet who are within the zanmato's reach.
