I'm starting to plan for a new 4e campaign I'm hoping to start soon on Maptools. Currently, I'm trying to flesh out the game world a little bit. The broad strokes: every fifty years, a continent-wide magical catastrophe occurs, resulting in your standard zombie apocalypse. Only enough living beings survive to begin the cycle anew, fifty years later. So, it's sort of a dark fantasy world with a heavy emphasis on undead. I'm hoping to let players try out some of those cool paragon paths and powers focused on a single enemy without feeling like they're limiting themselves. What I really need help with is names, particularly place names. I've never been a fan of the "knit together random syllables until you get something that sounds magic-y or exotic" method of creating fantasy names, so instead I've reverted to the "random word plus noun" method. I thought I'd come here to get a little variety. Here's what I got so far: Arkhosia and Bael Turath: It's pretty much a core part of the 4e setting, and I do like those names, so they're in, even if they don't fit the pattern. The Shimmering: A theocratic nation ruled by a fanatical sect of Pelor-worshippers. They believe all magic (even divine magic) is evil. Gravewater and Paleport: Major towns in a fairly stable nation that is run by a cabal of liches. Icesong: The one remaining dwarven surface settlement. Pine Reach: A minor lumber village where the PCs will start off. So that's sort of my 'style,' and I'd like the rest of the world to more or less follow suit. I could particularly use help naming the following places: -A haunted forest filled with the remaining force from the last zombie apocalypse. -A frigid but volcanically active mountain range where giants live. -The lich-run nation (instead of just the cities within the nation) -An impossibly-high mountain where the zombie-plague is thought to originate (something more creative than 'Mount Doom' would be nice). That'll be enough to start me off, I think. The rest I can fill in as I go along, I'm sure. But if you have good ideas for place names, whether it be wide areas of wilderness or tiny hamlets, I'd love to hear them! Names for NPCs or artifacts are more than welcome, too. I like names, but I'm really picky about them, so I sometimes just don't have enough to populate my gameworld! Any help would be greatly appreciated.
