There was an episode from Stargate SG-1 a while ago where Jack and T'ealc kept living the same day over and over again until they figured out why it was happening and fixed it. Stealing that, I inserted into my campaign. The PCs had just been instructed to escort a caravan of supplies that is going to an outpost on the border between Khorvaire and Breland (Eberron). The PCs were helping a total of 20 guards, 2 leuitenants and the leader. On the way, they are attacked by bandits. There are 5 large wagons and, at one point, bandits get into the third and fifth wagons. A few of the guards went after the bandits and, for some reason, the PCs see a flash of white light and they wake up in the inn on the morning they met the caravan. So they go through the motions and get back to the same ambush. This time, they are more prepared but, again, the bandits and guards get into the same wagons. Again, the light goes off and the PCs wake up in the inn. But this time, they noticed the light originated from the third wagon. So they came up with a plan and tried to keep the bandits out of the third wagon. The plan worked, to a point, but keeping them away from the wagon kept them with the guards, whom the slaughtered. In the end, 4 guards, the leuitenants and caravan head survived, along with the PCs. So they looked through the cart and found a small box that held 3 small crystal balls. An identify spell later and it turns out the 3 balls must be held in the same hand and Time Stop can be cast. It's a one time only item. Anyway, after convining the caravan leader to let them do it, they proceeded to destroy the crystal balls. They decided that, in each case, the guards and bandits had proceeded to knock the balls over and they broke, causing the time loop. They figured they should break them so they could start the day over and keep alive the 16 guards who were killed. They broke the crystal balls, which did cause the problem, and ended up killing all the bandits with a solid plan. Only one guard died in the process. The players had a good time, even though it technically was playing the same encounter over again 4 times, and were congratulating themselves on figuring everything out and saving the guards. I was really glad that my theft of a tv show came off so well. :) So has anyone else taken something from a tv show/movie and incorporated it into their campaign with successful results?
