They had paused to rest in a clearing when a handful of medium-sized monstrous spiders leaped down from the branches of the tree above them.&quot;You feel the weight of one of them as it lands on your shoulder and can almost hear the sound of its fangs scraping against your armor before it falls to the ground,&quot; I say.My son's attack hit and wounded the spider with 12 points of damage -- maximum damage from his spiked chain. &quot;Pathetic,&quot; he sneered, although I couldn't tell if he was in character or not.He soon learned not to taunt his foes so quickly, as the spider's next attack was a critical threat, with maximum damage and a failed Fort save. The look on his face was priceless as he realized that he had lost two points of Strength and was suddenly down to three hit points.His return attack, however, was more spectacular. He rolled a critical threat, confirmed it, and dealt maximum damage again, reducing his attacker to a small puddle of goo. If the look on his face was priceless then, it was indescribeable this time.We're still talking about that battle.
