I noticed that when someone spans a thread, there can sometimes be confusion when the offending post is eliminated, just leaving the "Reported." post sitting behind a perfectly innocuous post.

So tonight, when I reported some spam, I actually went a bit further, quoting the offender's attributes for clarity, thusly:

That way, there is no question as to whom the "Reported." refers.

Is it still necessary to even post "reported" when reporting a post? I thought the reason the mods requested that was because multiple reports of the same post would appear as different threads in some mod-only forum, but now the software concatenates multiple reports of the same post into one thread.

It lets other ENWorlders know the thread has been reported, so the mods don't get a half-dozen reports of the same post.

A better thing to do might be to type "spam reported."

We like people noting that spam has already been flagged. While the system concatenates reports into one thread for us, we still get emailed multiple times when a thread is reported multiple times. It also saves a half dozen people the hassle of making a report.

I like it. I've seen a few instances of someone posting after a "reported" post, asking "why did you report me"...not realizing it was the spam post just below them that's already been deleted.

Like Pcat said, "Spam Reported", and then Danny's idea. I don't think people have to do it, but I probably will. I like it.

I've been using the xp messages to notify other readers that the post has been reported. That way, the message vanishes with the post.

That's clever. Not bad. Although I like to use spammers as an excuse to bump up my post count.:D
