I want some advice on turning it into a kind of Supers RPG/Marvel's the Eternals kind of deal

Nightfall

Sage of the Scarred Lands
Yes your old friend Nightfall is stumped. Not by the Scarred Lands (I'm sure something will happen there) nor by Pathfinder (I'm really loving my Elf Paladin in Wrath of the Righteous). No I'm stumped because for Free RPG Day, I want to run Numenera but with twist. I want it to be a kind of Super Hero exploration of the world much like if Marvel Comics The Eternals showed up there. For those of you not familiar with these guys go here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eternals_(comics)

Now I kind of want to do the way Neil Gaimen set it up in Volume 3...but instead of awakening on Marvel Earth, it's more like Numenera finds out what kind of gods MIGHT be out there.

So...I need help. How do I make a conversion? Do I need to make a conversion? Should I make a conversion? Answers to these questions will REALLY help me flesh this out before June.

Thanks guys! :)

Really? 77 views and no a DAMN comment? I mean I guess I should be flattered you look. :p

Seriously though folks, I'd REALLY like some suggestions here. Comments, whatever.

I don't think a conversion is really necessary. The Numenera classes come across as a bit superheroic...

Perhaps simply having the PCs start off higher up the progression would be sufficient.

So...say I want to make a character like a Jean Grey/Phoenix type, a Cyclops type and a Forge type. But instead of being mutants, they're just superhuman.

Do you think that's doable Danny?

I'd say its a guarded yes. I'd want to see the Beastiary first, to get a clearer look at the variety within the game as envisioned by the designers.

Besides, what is a mutant but a superhuman, really? The marvel mutants are evolved from humans, after all. The Eternals- like the Inhumans- are similar, just with different reasons for being über.

If you were really concerned, you could add another element to the PC-defining sentence that takes care of the power boost. "I am an adjectiive adjective-noun noun who verbs." would be the new sentence structure.

The adjective-noun would be defined by your campaign, and would essentially be a species or subspecies. Assuming a Marvel universe type, the selections would be something like:

Mutant
Eternal
Inhuman
Alien
God
Artificial Life Form

Yes, some of those terms are somewhat defined within the game already, but in this case, they would refer to types that are more powerful than average.

Just a thought...the High Evolutionary and his Ani-Men/New Men/Knights of Wundagore would be an interesting and very fitting aspect of Marvel to include.

FWIW, considering my previous post, I'd call New Men by the adjective-noun of "Mutant".

In the alternative, you could bundle the Inhumans, New Men, super-soldiers, super-science accidents and other artificially super-powered PCs by the adjective-noun "Uplifted".
