[QUOTE="Drawmack, post: 479600, member: 4981"] [color=white] Here is what I do. I have an excel workbook that allows me to keep a synopsis sheet on all the PCs, a battle tracker and an xp calculator. Then I do my adventures in word. I have all my role-playing pdfs on my laptop and the SRD. I use a program called DM Screen for almost all of the tables from the DMG. I have a name generator on the laptop. I also have DMs Tools (from WotC) installed but have yet to accutally use it in game, though I'm going to make my next adventure in it for a test run. It'll just be a one shot though incase I don't like it. From this setup I almost never consult with anything except my laptop, unless one of the players hands me a book with the page already refereneced. Although I refuse to use a computerized die roller becuase I know too much about random number generation on the computer. My recommendations on using a laptop in game are that if you're going to use it you should maximize it's use to minimize switching. Get programs or make spread sheets that cover a majority of your work. Keep adventures on the computer, even if that means creating your own instead of using published ones. Get good at using the search features in the word processor and acrobat. Learn Alt+Tab and all your keyboard shortcuts. Hot key every program you could possibly use in game then memorize or have those hotkeys where you can see them. The computer must be faster then the books or the players will get upset.
