I got to use the spell wish today, for the first time, well, ever. Ok, so it was actually Limited Wish, and from a scroll, but still, it was great.
Two Mind Flayers had their tentacles attached to the other wizard in the party's head, this guy was not going to survive long. I got the best initiative, and, after determining I had no other recourse, simply said "I wish for Anaril, and only Anaril, to be teleported five feet behind me." As a I nice touch I rolled a twenty on the check for reading the scroll and that was that.
By doing it my character saved the character's life, and I got berated by some of the other players for wasting such a valuable item, when they probably could have saved the character, if their initiative came before both of the Illithids. However, this to me is the reason to be a spellcaster, Wish, being able to change reality to suit your needs.
Funny thing, I asked the other two arcane casters in the party why they don't carry scrolls of (Limited) Wish. Their response: there hasn't been a situation where I've needed it.
