I6 Castle Ravenloft; Creating a short-run adaptation for Halloween

One tradition I've had with my gaming groups is to run a horror themed adventure as part of either my ongoing campaign or a special one-shot. I've done this several times with Castle Ravenloft, running it twice while playing 3.5. Once with a straight adaptation of I6, and once with Expedition to Castle Ravenloft.

For this October I'm trying to create a 4e adaptation using mostly I6, but also some of Expedition. In my previous runnings of Ravenloft, I've found that it tends to go on longer than I would like, eating up several levels of the campaign with Expedition. So this time for my 4e adaptation, I'm trying to cut out the majority of the uninteresting combats, and have more of the adventure focus on the description and ambiance.

So far I've identified two encounters that have to be in there, and I'm looking to see if there's any more essential ones in the forum community.

1. The Card Reading with Madam Eva: the variable goals and shifting locations and omens the card reading brings out is one reason I think Castle Ravenloft stands up for repeat usage. I'll probably be using a shortened form of the Expedition version of the card reading, as this allow me to use my Three Dragon Ante deck.

2. Facing Strahd: obviously a night in Castle Ravenloft needs to include facing Strahd. I'll probably be using the version of him that's already available for 4e, upping his damage to MV standards of course.

My only third contender so far is the room with the Wights (don't want to spoil this one for anyone who might not know about this classic), it has very fond memories for me.

So EnWorld members, what are the essential encounters of Castle Ravenloft? What can I easily cut out?
